My Tip: I choose to use shallot in my dressing because they are a bit sweeter than a regular onion, and their flavor is more subtle. If shallots are not available, you can substitute it, either with 1 teaspoon spring onion/scallion (the white base of a scallion only), or with just ½ teaspoon finely minced red onion instead. However, I do not recommend using garlic with this dressing. It would be too strong!
